Entering this year’s Première Vision Paris 2024 felt like a step into the future of fashion, especially for young designers and students excited to explore new possibilities.
Pelinova®’s launch on 4th of February 2024
The international fair features a smart area that connects next-generation material producers with global market players, raising awareness of the challenges facing the industry.
Among the variety of featured innovations was Pelinova®, a next-gen leather fibers alternative from Recyc Leather™. Seeing and feeling it firsthand in their booth revealed its excellence as a future fabric. The Recyc Leather™ team was enthusiastic to share the production process of Pelinova®, which embraces a circular economy by collecting and reusing leather waste.
The material, designed in collaboration with the Lenzing Group, presented how innovation can reshape the future of fashion without compromising sustainability or luxury finishes. The textures and colors on display were vibrant and diverse, offering designers limitless creative possibilities.
The launch of the material included a panel discussion with Recyc Leather founder Olivier Grammont, Nicole Schram, Thomas Matiz from Lenzing, and Julie Verdich and Jennifer Catherin from GANNI’s raw materials and footwear team.
The talk discussed the collaboration between the companies, including the technical testing and material adjustments for the production in Portugal and Hong Kong. The Moderator Victoire Satto, founder of The Good Goods, showcased the collaboration's result by wearing taupe slouchy boots made from Pelinova® during the conference.
Many attendees, especially students, were engaged, asking questions and learning about the challenges of creating a sustainable alternative to virgin leather. It created a curious and connecting atmosphere, while up-and-coming designers and professionals exchanged ideas to push the boundaries for a new mindset for the fashion industry.
As the event continued, it became clear that attendees and exhibitors shared the same vision for the future of fashion to prioritize transparent, innovative, and sustainable practices :
"As followers of this movement, the young generation now expects brands to go further in their social and ethical commitment, with the textile industry still needing to step up its efforts in terms of transparency." – Florence Rousson, President of the Première Vision Management Board
